The music field is malleable and ever-changing. To be successful, I encourage my students to be curious in the many avenues available to them within the larger field. In my own experience, I’ve found that crafting a multidimensional portfolio career has emboldened me to go the extra mile, take a chance, find a coinciding passion, and build lasting connections in my personal life and professional career. I bring this musical approach to my teaching in both academic and applied settings and have found that this marriage allows for deeper connections to be made, a recognition of classroom instruction’s relevance to performance practice, and a flourishing set of well-rounded and curious students. As I cater my teaching to each student, I consider their individual interests and backgrounds as I plan a path for them and their future. Whether they plan to pursue a performance career, mold the next generation of music students as an educator or community partner, or carve out a path for themselves amongst the many opportunities available within the field of music, I base my teaching on three fundamental pillars:

Creating, Guiding, and Inspiring

Stupendous human being and amazing professor. Interactions with students, explanations of content, and rehearsal etiquette are all spectacular. He actually cares about you as a person, will admit when he has made a mistake with a smile, and has a great balance of serious instruction and having fun.
— Alma College Student
I felt like the only limit to how quickly I learned the instrument was the amount of time I was wiling to put in, and that was perfect. He was always good at giving me music for my skill level that helped me improve.

Jeffrey is an amazing teacher and I’ve rearranged my schedule several times just to have him as my TA. He is very clear and concise with his teaching, and it’s easy to ask him questions.

Jeffrey always acknowledged you if you walked in later and was willing to stay a few minutes after class if we had questions, wanted to arrange a time to meet, or needed life advice. He’d sometimes sit amongst the students while teaching which made him more approachable and lessened the power dynamic between teacher and student. Very professional over all!
